Oktoberfest bag rules 2026: what you can bring through the gates
A daypack can turn into a detour at the gate. Know the strict size limit and pack only what you can carry comfortably.

At the entrance
The size and volume limits both apply
The official visitor rules give a maximum volume of 3 litres and maximum dimensions of 20 × 15 × 10 cm. Large backpacks and daypacks are generally prohibited. If you arrive with larger luggage, paid storage is available at entrances P1, P5, P8 and P10 for €5, but the organiser warns that capacity is not guaranteed and queues can form. Leaving luggage at your accommodation is the simplest option.
Security staff may check bags at the entrances. Even a permitted small bag cannot contain glass bottles, harmful-content gas spray cans, corrosive or colouring substances, or objects that can be used for cutting, thrusting or stabbing.
A practical packing list
Bring the small essentials, not a daypack
Keep the contents to what you can carry in a tiny bag or a secure pocket. A simple plan is easier to check at the entrance and easier to manage in a crowded tent.
- Phone, cash or card, and your MVV ticket if you need one; payment acceptance varies by stand and tent.
- Photo ID, keys and any essential medication in its original packaging.
- A light layer, small umbrella or rain protection that you can carry without a large bag; umbrellas are permitted at the entrances.
- A meeting point and the name of your first tent saved on your phone, in case your group gets separated.
If you are visiting with children
Pushchairs and changing bags have extra rules
The same 3-litre and 20 × 15 × 10 cm limit applies to diaper bags. Pushchairs are not permitted on Saturdays or public holidays, including 3 October. On other festival days, the pushchair restriction begins at 6 p.m.; security staff may inspect them. Stroller storage is available for a fee at luggage-storage points, subject to capacity.
Rules can be updated for operational or safety reasons. Recheck the official visitor page on the day, especially if you are carrying medication or travelling with children.
